Small, rustic bungalows directly on the sands of Saracen Bay offer a more local experience.
Kun Family Bungalows are ideally situated directly on the beach, with beautiful views of the waters of Saracen Bay. Despite the excellent location, we hesitate to write this review of Kun Family Bungalows, so convinced are we that they will not be there six months from now. That said, they’ve been going strong for more than two years, so maybe they will prove us wrong.
Meet the Kuns at Kun Family Bungalows!
Kun Family Bungalows has just three bungalows and five rooms. They are very basic — one might go so far as to say primitive. The bungalows have little more than a bed and mosquito net, and the attached bathrooms are…tolerable. The rooms are also very basic, with shared bathrooms and a mattress on the floor, but slightly less expensive, offering one of the few budget-ish options on Saracen Bay.
Kun Family Bungalows has 24-hour electricity but no WiFi (if you need it, the restaurant at The One next door offers free WiFi for customers).
The bungalows are pretty basic. But the beach outside is real pretty.
The best thing about these bungalows is the Kuns themselves. They offer Cambodian hospitality, which is a nice change when most other accommodation on the island is foreign-run. In high season they have regular BBQs that include locally caught fish and seafood (as well as more standard items like chicken, veggies, and pork).

We were quoted the following prices at Kun Family Bungalows, Koh Rong Sanloem:
- Seafront bungalow: $35 in high season, $30 in low season
- Double room with shared bathroom: $25 in high season, $20 in low season
The walk-in rates at Kun Family are decidedly overpriced — we got the sense that they were just testing the waters when we were quoted these prices, and suspected that we could negotiate quite a bit lower if we’d had the time and inclination, which we didn’t. Bookings can be made in person or by phone, or on Booking.com. They offer 20% discounts for last-minute bookings on Booking.com, so it’s worth checking online before making a reservation.
